In a deep tissue massage, the therapist applies pressure into the inner layers of the muscle and connective tissues – something that is impossible to accomplish with broad, gliding massage strokes over relaxed muscles.
Deep tissue massage is typically not recommended for beginner massage recipients due to the large volume of toxins released during such a lengthy, aggressive process.
The primary effect of deep tissue massage is to lengthen and realign muscle tissues. This can improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, remodel scar tissue, free nerves trapped by muscles, and address trigger point activity.
